Destination Guide: St.Barths

Escape the cold this Winter and hit a beach!

St. Barths is one of the most incredible Caribbean islands us girls have visited. If you are looking for a once in a lifetime trip to the Caribbean or a luxury weekend escape from the cold St.Barths is the place to be.

Here are some of our Tips:

Places to Stay:
The last time we visited St.Barths we split our time between Eden Rock and Isle de France. We loved both properties and they are very different from one another.

Eden Rock is located in the heart of St.Jean and is situated at the end of the beach.

The two restaurants at the hotel, Sand Bar and On The Rocks provide exceptional dinning options by Jean-George Vongerichten. Make sure to try one of their signature cocktails!

The art at the property is very unique. Make sure you take the time to check it out. If you are looking to walk to Nikki Beach you are in luck as the hotel is located right next door.

Isle de France is located on Flamands Beach which is a fabulous beach to walk. On this side of the island there is much more surf compared to other parts of the island.

No trip to paradise is complete without a massage. Our visit to the Spa at Isle de France was lovely. There is a private steam room that you can access either before or after your treatment. We highly recommend a visit!

Whether you are looking for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a drink you cannot go wrong with any of the dining options at this hotel. Our favourite lunch spot on the island is La Cabane de I’Isle where you can have lunch with your toes in the sand!

If you are not staying at the hotel make sure you make a reservation! They also have great sofa seats in the sand if you are travelling with a large party that will make for a fun lunch experience.

Taiwana is located on Flamands Beach as well and right next door to Isle de France. Taiwana is a great hotel with a more affordable price point than Isle de France. If you are looking for a blow dry while on the island they have a great hair salon and cute boutique for women and children’s fashion.

Le Toiny is a Relais & Chateaux property that is located in Anse de Toiny. The hotel offers incredible views of the Caribbean and is the place to stay if you are looking to get away from all the hustle and bustle and unwind in a private villa suite. This is a great hotel for couples looking to relax.

There are many incredible villas on the island for rent. Check out http://www.wimco.com to view a wide selection of properties.

Places to Eat:

Bagatelle is a great italian spot in Gustavia. Request a table by the water and you can be right in the action of town with a spectacular view of the harbour.

If you are looking to party and have a fun dinner experience then Ti St.Barths is the place to go! With an incredible wine list, menu and fashion show you are sure to have a great time.

Maya’s Restaurant a local favourite is located in Plage Public. The menu changes constantly but we loved the Salade de Langouste, Crevette Scampi, Wahoo and of course the Cateau au Chocolat. We had a lovely evening talking with Maya and can’t wait to return.

Bonito is a great place for drinks and to watch the sunset over St.Barths. If you go for lunch or dinner request a table by the edge. They have hands down the best ceviche on the island!

Meat & Potatoes is a great dinning option if you are out by Saline beach.

We had the most fabulous brunch buffet at Restaurant Le Gaiac. This restaurant is located in Le Toiny and a must visit on any trip to St.Barths.

If you are looking to have a great sushi lunch and lounge for the afternoon then Nikki Beach is a must visit. Check the schedule before you go as certain days have themed parties going on. When we were on the island Nikki Beach was throwing a Maroc Party. If you are staying in a villa that is not on the beach then you can reserve a lounge day bed on the beach here.

La Cabane de I’Isle at Isle de France is absolutely fabulous for lunch as is The Sand Bar at Eden Rock. Both places you can reserve lounge chairs at.

Sante Fe is great for lunch or dinner. If you are lucky and it is a super clear day you will have a spectacular view.

Other restaurants that are worth mentioning on the island are Do Brazil, La Plage, Esprit and Isola.

Places to Shop:
There are really two areas to shop in St.Barths. Gustavia which has tons of great boutique and luxury brand stores as well as St.Jean which has more independent boutiques.

In Gustavia we love La Chemise Tropezienne, Calypso, Petit Bateau, Human Steps, Poupette as well as Marina to name a few! In St.Jean we love Bamboo and the Rock Shop.

A Must Do Island Activity:
A visit to St.Barths is not complete without going to Saline beach.

This beach has no amenities like any of the beaches we have mentioned so far. It is absolutely pristine and untouched. Pack your towels, sunblock and some snacks and have a relaxing day on this side of the island.

Looking to get around the island?

We rented a mini cooper while we were on St.Barths as the roads are narrow and windy and relied on Rudy Jules for our evening transportation. He is an exceptional Taxi driver and if you are looking for a car make sure to track him down or contact us and we can put you in touch.

Doggie Favorites For The Winter

When it is cold outside it is essential to take care of your pet! We love our princess Perla and always want to make sure she is comfortable, happy and protected when she goes outdoors.

Here are a few of our favourite items for keeping your furry friend warm this winter!

1. Doggie Boots
Dogs are just like humans, their feet get cold in the winter!

Make sure to protect your pets paws with boots. It is a fact that dogs paws can get frostbitten. At first you might think that it will look silly on your pet but the truth is your dog will really appreciate it. Ensure that you purchase the correct size of boots so that they can walk normally once they get used to wearing them. They should fit snuggly while allowing your dog to spread out their paws. We suggest booties that have reflective markings on them if you are taking your dog out when it is dark.

We have tried many different types of boots for Perla and have found that she consistently prefers boots with structure rather than the rubber disposable dog boots. Doggie School makes great dog boots!

2. Dog Coat
A warm insulated dog coat can do wonders for your pet. Perla favours her Bobby made fleece lined dog coat as it is super soft for her and very warm. Not all dogs need coats. If you have a dog with thick fur such as a Golden Retriever or a Husky their fur provides natural insulation for them. If your dog does not like the cold or has light fur then a coat is a must have for your pet!

Image-3

TIP: Make sure the dog coat is water-resistant and easy to put on and take off!

3. Dog Sweater
If you have a short haired dog a sweater is a great idea to keep your furry friend warm indoors. Sweaters are also great for when it is a mild day outside and you want to keep your dog warm. Make sure when you buy a sweater that it fits properly and your pet is comfortable wearing it.

4. Pet Care Ice Melt
When it snows outside and you need to put down an ice melter salt can be very harmful to your pets paws. We recommend using a pet safe product that is veterinarian recommended. Safe-T-Pet is a salt-free ice melter that we use when it snows, it is both salt and chloride free.

5. Sunshine
Dogs love being in the warm sun. If you can move their dog bed by a window on a sunny day many furry friends love this!

TIP For Sizing: If you are not bringing your furry friend along with you to the pet store don’t forget to measure your dog with a cloth measuring tape. Two measurements we find helpful are the circumference around the middle of your pets stomach and a measurement along your pets back from the neck to the start of the tail.
